Identification

  • Variety of sizes
  • Eyes are generally distinctive with eight eyes arranged in two rows
  • Central pair of eyes may be greatly enlarged, almost forming a face
  • Markings on some species can be mistaken for those of the Brown Recluse

Environment

  • Some species will guard their egg cases and newborn spiderlings
  • Common throughout the U.S. on the exterior of homes

Threats

  • Will wander inside homes during severe weather
