What If Mosquitoes Were Extinct?

What If Mosquitoes Were Annihilated?

A recent video on Yahoo! News asked the question, “What If Mosquitoes were Annihilated?”.  The video reminds us that mosquitoes, although tiny, have a HUGE impact on humans.  Mosquitoes are the deadliest animal killing more than 725,000 people each year.  If mosquitoes are such a danger then why don’t we eradicate them?

Out of the 3,500 species of mosquitoes, only 3 of those are the cause of disease spread.  Is it worth it to destroy habitats, danger the environment, and disrupt the life cycle of other animals?

Record Breaking Rain Brings Record Amount of Mosquitoes

Good news…we’re no longer in a drought!!

Bad news…thanks to all of the record breaking rain, we have record amounts of pests, especially mosquitoes!

mosquitoMoisture is known to attract pests.  They, like humans, need moisture to survive.  So it’s no surprise that with the large amount of rain we’ve gotten this year that mosquitoes have become a major issue for Georgia residents.

Georgia is no stranger to mosquitoes.  Between standing water (lakes, ponds, creeks, even standing water in your yard) and the local vegetation, we are accustomed to this issue.  While some residents turn to DIY options, those aren’t always effective. Going to the local hardware store and picking out a product from the shelves may help short term but will not get to the source of the mosquito infestation.

Northwest Exterminating’s Green Mosquito Control provides monthly mosquito treatments by a licensed professional.  Our professionals are knowledgeable about the products they are using, what attracts mosquitoes, and the process of keeping them away.  Our professional exterminators will inspect the property and identify the source of the breeding and nesting areas.  After they’ve determined these areas they are able to apply an environmentally friendly product derived from flowers and bacteria.

Getting Rid of Fire Ants Quickly

Fire ants are a common problem for homeowners in Atlanta and other southeastern cities.  They can be found in the yard and should be a concern for homeowners. Fire ants can be difficult to get rid of once they have moved onto your property and have built their colonies.  They are an aggressive species and will bite and sting if they feel that they, or their colony,  is being threatened.  A fire ant’s bite or sting can be painful and cause serious health risks to you, your family, and pets.  You and your family should be able to enjoy your yard freely without the concern of stumbling across a fire ant mound.

Because fire ants can be difficult to get rid of and carry a health risk, Northwest Exterminating recommends using a professional exterminating company to ensure the fire ant colonies are treated effectively.  Northwest Exterminating’s Fire Ant Control program reduces fire ant colonies within 24 to 72 hours.  Our treatment even targets the colonies located underground.  Other products used by companies take up to 30 days to control fire ants, require immediate irrigation to work, can be harmful to your family and pets, and may require over 80 pounds of product to be effective.

In the summer, you don’t have 30 days to spare to enjoy your yard!

Benefits of Northwest Exterminating’s Fire Ant Control Service:

  • We use Dupont’s AdvionTM, the fastest acting fire ant bait on the market.
  • The bait is ingested by the fire ant, controlling the colony within 24-72 hours.
  • Entire yard is treated to wipe out all colonies, even the ones underground.
  • Application is environmentally friendly to your family and pets.

Formosan Termites found in Columbus, GA Home

A Columbus family recently had some unwelcome guests in the form of Formosan termites.  Out of over 2,000 species of termites, Formosan termites or “Super Termites” are the most aggressive.  They are native to Asia and often make their way into the US through shipped wood.  Formosan termites gather in large colonies and can cause thousands of dollars of damage to a home.  Once a home is infested with Formosan termites, they can be difficult to control.  That is why termite prevention is key!

In this particular case, a family member noticed “flying insects” and called Northwest Exterminating to identify the pests as Formosan termites.  Northwest President, Steve Phillips, personally went out with the team to inspect the home.  The termites were found swarming in several areas of the home.  We installed a termite baiting system, The Sentricon System with Always Active, an effective and environmentally friendly option to eliminate and prevent termites.  Always Active offers continuous property protection from the termite colony – not just the individual termite.

We strongly suggested that this customer’s neighbors have their homes inspected for termites as well.  If a neighbor has termites, or some other pest or rodent infestation, they can easily make their way over to your home.  That is why termite protection is so important…prevention is key!  Preventing termites from ever getting into your home will ensure that you don’t get a termite infestation.  Call us or visit us online for a FREE termite inspection
