Unusually Warm Weather Brings Mosquitoes

If you’re anything like I am, you are enjoying these warm temperatures in February.  It’s nice to get out and enjoy the unusually warm weather in a season that is usually filled with low temperatures and biting wind.  The downside of the warm weather is that it can throw off the life cycle of certain pests, mosquitoes being one of the biggest nuisances.  Mosquitoes in February are a rare site but are something we have been experiencing with the high temperatures.

The warm temperatures confuse the mosquitoes life cycle into thinking it is time for them to begin their life cycle.  Mosquitoes come out from their resting stage hungry and ready to eat…on you!  Not only are they hungry but they are reproducing quickly.  Mosquitoes can lay up to 300 eggs every couple of days.

Check any standing water around your home such as puddles, buckets, flower pots, etc that can attract mosquitoes.  By starting or continuing your mosquito reduction program you will significantly reduce the annoyance of swatting and dodging these pesky flyers.

If you are seeing mosquitoes, or would like to keep them from showing up, call Northwest Exterminating and ask about our Green Mosquito Control Program.  Not only will Northwest reduce the annoyance of mosquitoes for you and your family, we will do it in a way that guarantees the lowest environmental impact possible.

Go GREEN for the Big Game!

It’s the biggest day of the year for football fans…the SUPER BOWL!!!  What better way to cheer on your team than throwing a Super Bowl party?  Regardless of what team you’re cheering for you can still make sure to GO GREEN for the big game!

Check out these tips from Northwest Exterminating to make your Super Bowl party an environmentally friendly party!

  • Bite sized or finger foods eliminate the need for plastic ware.
  • If plastic ware is used, make sure it, along with any other recyclable goods, are put in separate containers to be recycled.
  • Using real dishes may take a little more clean-up than disposable items but it will save you money and keep disposable items out of landfills.
  • Buy in bulk.  Items bought in bulk use less material than items bought individually.
  • Have options for trash and recyclables.  Clearly label these for your guests.

These are just a few Green tips on how to keep your Super Bowl party a GREEN party!!
