2011 is a big year for us at Northwest Exterminating. We are celebrating 60 years of serving our customers. Yes, that’s right…60 years!
60 years ago, in 1951, Northwest Exterminating was founded by L.A. Phillips and his wife, Emma Lene Phillips in Northwest Atlanta. Throughout the years, Northwest has grown from a family of 2 to a family of over 300 employees. We now have 14 service centers across Georgia to serve the Southeast.
Today, Northwest is still a family owned and operated company. The President is Steve Phillips (L.A. & Emma Lene’s oldest son), Stephen Phillips (Steve’s son) serves as Leader of Operations, and Stanford Phillips (Steve’s son) serves as Leader of Business Development.
The principles that Northwest was founded on in 1951 are the same principles that we live by today: We will uphold commitments made to our Customers while exercising honesty, integrity, and excellence.
Our mission is to create a healthier living and working environment for our Customers. We accomplish this mission by providing superior services performed by trained and knowledgeable pest professionals.

Buying and/or selling a home is a rewarding task…but can also be a stressful task. Once you’ve found the home of your dreams you go through great length to ensure that it is up to code and everything is in good condition. But some people miss out on a very vital step…the termite letter!
Approximately 65% of all clearance letters issued on homes older than 5 years reflect previous termite or other wood destroying organism infestations. Our data indicates that 1/4 of all clearance letters require some form of termite treatment.
Termites are responsible for more damage to homes than water and fire combined – $11 billion annually in the U.S.
Tips for Buyer:
- In most cases foreclosure homes have not been inspected for termite activity in many years. The Official Georgia Wood Infestation Inspection Report (termite letter) is a minimal investment to protect your great find.
- If the property you are considering buying has had previous infestations, the Official Georgia Wood Infestation Inspection Report (termite letter) will have a diagram of the property identifying the affected areas. Your home inspector can use that diagram to inspect those areas to determine, in his opinion, the degree of damage.
Tips for Seller:
- If the property is not under warranty with any company and the property needs treatment, this expense could become a negotiating issue for the sale of the property.
- To obtain a marketing advantage, be proactive by getting a termite inspection and an Official Georgia Wood Infestation Inspection Report (termite letter) prior to marketing your home.
- A tranferrable warranty is a strong selling feature.

Did you Know???
According to recent studies, bedbugs can live 3 or 4 months without food. They feed to gain protein for their next molt. Once they are an adult they can live several years, eating as little as 4 times a year.
An effective and efficient option for killing bedbugs is to place clothing, toys, shoes, backpacks, etc., in a clothes dryer set at medium to high heat for 10 to 20 minutes. This will kill all bedbug life stages and can be done alone or in conjunction with laundering. According to textile experts at the Dry-cleaning & Laundry Institute (Laurel, MD), most garments designated as ‘dry-clean only’ (e.g., cotton, wool, silk, linen, rayon, nylon, poly blends) will not be harmed provided they are dry before being placed in a clothes dryer at moderate (less than 160?F) settings. Roaches can carry over 56 pathogens on the outside of their body. These can be deposited as they crawl around looking for food, water and a mate. They also deposit protein based fragments of their bodies, “roach allergens”, which remain on a plate even if it’s boiled in water.
