Opportunities present themselves in interesting ways. Northwest has service centers in the Birmingham, AL and Carrollton, GA areas. One morning, a teammate driving between the two heard an announcement about the need for donations at a local Food Pantry on the radio. The result was the Northwest team coming together to meet this call.
The teammate who overheard the announcement reached out to the local service centers and Corporate office to see what could be possible. The radio asked for donations of basic hygiene needs, especially children’s soap and shampoo. Teammates collected and donated over 251 items within 2 days of the request.
Northwest was able to collect children’s shampoo and soap, baby wash and wipes, Q-tips, men’s and women’s deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, face wash, soap, and razors. All 250+ items were dropped off at the donation society to be used at the Food Pantry. While dropping off, our teammate was able to collect a list of additional needs and items, which the team plans to work on collecting and donating in the future.
It’s incredible to see teammates from all over the Southeast come together in support for our small, local communities we’re fortunate to serve. The Birmingham and Carrollton service centers look forward to supporting more initiatives in the area.

Over the last few months, the Northwest Good Deed team and teammates have been collecting donations for soldiers who are quarantining while coming back into or going out of the United States. When the team found out the quarantine period was 16-20 days, they knew the Northwest team needed to come together to support these men and women who do so much for us daily.
The team began donating care bags for each soldier that comes through Dobbins Air Force Base for quarantine. On January 24th, nearly 150 soldiers were quarantined at the Base. Each received a supply bag and had access to donated gaming systems, puzzles, magazines, and DVD players.
Recently, the team heard from TSgt USAF AFRC 16 IS/Delta Flt Disney, who thanked them for thinking of the soldiers quarantined there. It was such a great moment to receive a card from someone receiving the bags.
The team plans to continue to send supply bags to each group of soldiers at least until June 2021! We are so thankful to Sydney Curtis for being the liaison to the Northwest team and relaying this incredible idea for us to support. The team has really enjoyed collecting and putting these together, and it is a small way we can stay thank you to the servicewomen and men.

Each year, Northwest Exterminating teams plan First Responder Events in an effort to show our appreciation for all they do for us and our communities every day. With COVID-19 restrictions, we have been unable to celebrate and thank these men and women as we usually would, so the team got creative with a way to safely say thank you!
On January 26, Northwest hosted meals for any member of the Dalton Police Department at Dos Bros in Dalton, GA. The team invited the police department to stop by for an appreciation meal on Northwest by them simply showing their ID when entering the restaurant. We were thankful that Dos Bros welcomed the idea!
The work that the people do in the Dalton Police Department allows our families to thrive and live safely. We were grateful for the opportunity to show our appreciation and serve the department a meal. Thank you, Dalton PD, for all the work you tirelessly do in Dalton.

The Savannah team is at it again! Over the last few years, the Northwest team out of the Savannah, GA office has created an amazing relationship with the staff at the Willet Children’s Hospital. The team has focused the partnership to celebrate most holidays with the families and children staying within the hospital at this time.
Each year around the December holidays, the Savannah team reaches out to all of Northwest to collect decorations for the children’s rooms. From mini Christmas trees and lights to window clings and garland, Northwest comes together to purchase and donate these items to bring a bit of holiday cheer to the hospital. This year, the team donated 20 bags of decorations so that each family could decorate their rooms together. 20 window clings were also donated for the ICU rooms.
Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the team was unable to drop these off and assist with the decorations this year as they have in the past, but they were thrilled to still be able to continue the tradition is some way. In addition to the decorations, they also donated bins of candy for the nursing staff as a small way to say thank you to these frontline workers for all they do.
Being able to volunteer with and donate to the Willet Children’s Hospital has been such a gift to the Savannah team who truly enjoys anytime they’re able to come together to support the families and staff. We are thankful for all the Hospital does, and we look forward to continuing the partnership into 2021.

Piedmont Pest Control, soon to transition to the Northwest Exterminating name, continues to create ways for teammates to be involved in the Laurens’ community, something every teammate enjoys.
A connection the Laurens team created early on was with the local first responders and law enforcement, especially to say thank you for all they do daily for our community. Though 2020 has changed the way our teammates are able to serve locally, they have found ways to so safely and with the same service-oriented heart.
Supporting a Customer
Some of our teammates took a Saturday morning to help an elderly customer with yardwork they were unable to do. The lawn was mowed, tree limbs were cleared, the yard was picked up, and our team was able to honor and support our customer in this small way they were thankful to be a part of.
First Responder Cookout
Our Piedmont teams’ partnership with the Laurens first responders continued this month with another First Responder Lunch, but this time drive-by style! This was a fun day of celebration, involvement, and connecting with our first responders with a Chick-Fil-A lunch. We enjoyed having our police officers and firefighters come by to pick up lunch and for our team to express our appreciation for their service and commitment to our extraordinary community.
First Responder, K9 Partnership
The Laurens team is thankful for the overall involvement with our first responders and the incredible people met throughout the years. There have been some special times our Laurens’ team has been able to help one team, the K9s. Our Laurens office was able to host the Laurens Police Department K9 training dogs and use our office as training grounds for them. This might be the coolest thing our teammates have been able to participate in – it was incredible! One K9 stole the team’s hearts altogether, Kai. She is beautiful, energetic, and an honoree Laurens teammate. At 2019’s First Responder Cookout, our team sponsored a bullet proof vest for her to have. Thank you, Laurens PD, for allowing us to be of service to not only your team of first responders but also the K9s.
Being involved in the communities our teams live and work in daily is an honor and something our teammates enjoy, not only because of the small acts of kindness created, but also because of the opportunity to create even a small impact in the communities we love. Thank you to all our teammates for looking for ways to continue to be involved throughout a year that looks difficult for all.
