How to Keep Cockroaches Out of My Laurens Home

Laurens Pest Control: Eliminating Cockroaches

A lot of homeowners believe that a tidy home will keep cockroaches away, but that’s not always the case. Cockroaches can find themselves in the tidiest of homes and it’s due to the availability of food, water, and shelter. The sight of even just one roach in your home should raise some alarms. These pests can multiply quickly and seeing just one typically means more are hiding nearby.

The main reason you should be wary about cockroaches in your home is that they can carry bacteria on their bodies and feet. They tend to walk across various surfaces and can pick up many unwanted germs. They are also known to bring on allergic reactions and asthmas attacks.

Signs of Cockroaches:

  • Dead cockroach bodies
  • Small, brown, oval-shaped eggs or eggshells
  • Dark, powdery droppings that resemble coffee grounds
  • Musty odor

If you begin noticing these signs of roaches, then it might be time to call your local pest control company. In the meantime, here are some simple cockroach prevention tips that will help lessen the chances of a roach infestation:

  • Clean thoroughly. After each meal, clean the dishes and put them away. Get rid of the crumbs and mop up the spills right away. Throw all trash away in a bin with a lid.
  • Declutter: Keep rooms decluttered and maintain a regular dusting schedule. When storing items, use plastic bins instead of cardboard, which is a major attractant for roaches.
  • Eliminate Moisture. Roaches thrive in moist areas and need water to survive, like most pests. Regularly check for any leaks or standing water in or around your home.
  • Call the Professionals. If you have done everything you possibly can but are still experiencing roaches, give your local pest control company a call today. An experienced technician will be able to determine the best plan perfect for you and your home.

Macon Pest Control: Preventing Spring Pests

A household pest is any undesired animal that has a history of living, invading, causing damage to, eating food from, acting as a disease vector for, or causing any other harm to a human habitat. While most are considered a nuisance, household pests become dangerous when they pose a risk to health, property, or lifestyle.

While they can be common year-round, some are common in the spring months. Here are a few common spring pests you can find in your Georgia home:

Termites

Termite swarming season begins in the springtime. Swarming season is when young termites leave their current colony and go off to find mates and establish new colonies. If you begin to see swarmers, it might mean a colony is nearby.

Ticks

Ticks are problematic to humans and pets because they spread diseases like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. You might begin to see an increase of tick bites in the springtime. The mild winters in Georgia don’t help with keeping ticks away for long, so you should always be aware of ticks at any time of the year.

Ants

With heavy rainfall in the early spring, you can expect to see ants finding their way inside your home. They will begin to search for food and water, which your home has plenty of.

Flies

These pesky pests will find their way inside once the weather begins to warm up. They can spread many pathogens by picking them up on their feet when landing on different items.

Prevent Spring Pests:

  • Keep windows, doors, and vents sealed
  • Use garbage cans with sealed lids
  • Keep plants and tree limbs cut away from your house
  • Fix leaks to prevent excess moisture
  • Wear insect repellent
  • Keep home clean and free of crumbs, especially the kitchen
  • Keep up with quarterly pest control

How Attic Insulation Benefits Your Opelika Home

How Attic Insulation Benefits Your Opelika Home

Alabama Pest Control: Attic Insulation

The transition from winter to spring can wreak havoc on your home’s energy consumption. Living in Alabama during the early spring gives us cold mornings and hot afternoons. Changing your thermostat to keep you comfortable inside shouldn’t be a daily task. Your attic insulation should be able to properly keep your home either cool or warm depending on the outside temperature. Let’s go over the benefits of getting your home properly insulated.

Benefits to Attic Insulation:

  • Lower utility bills: You can save an average of 15 percent on your utility bills by getting better insulation in your attic.
  • Safer home structure: Insulation can help prevent gradual damage to your home caused by heat and moisture.
  • Better indoor air quality: Poor insulation can allow dust, dirt, mold, and mildew to enter your home.
  • Keep pests away: Some insulations are coated with borate, which can affect pests such as roaches, ants, and more by causing a disruption to their stomachs and can also affect their nervous systems. It isn’t harmful to pets or family.

Attic insulation creates pockets that slow heat or cool air from attempting to flow through your home. This will help with uneven temperatures throughout your home. Installing insulation will also help your HVAC system run more efficiently and will help cut down on the times you have to adjust the thermostat, allowing lower energy bills.

If you believe you need to replace your attic’s insulation, consider reaching out to your local Opelika pest control company for a free quote!

NORTHWEST OFFICES ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST CELEBRATE RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS DAY

NORTHWEST OFFICES ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST CELEBRATE RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS DAY

February 17th marks the National Random Acts of Kindness Day. It’s a day dedicated to sprinkling kindness on everyone we interact with throughout the day to bring out smiles, joy, and appreciation for all. The Northwest team looks forward to this every year! In 2022, the Good Deed Team goal was to create over 1,000 acts of kindness, and the Day kicked us off to surpass this goal by nearly double before year’s end. This year, Northwest teams made it personal, looking for small ways to make a difference at their local service centers, with their local customers and teammates, and especially within their local communities.

Here are just a few of the stories we heard from our Southeast offices on what they did for National Random Acts of Kindness Day.

National Acts of Kindness Day

Macon, Georgia

The Macon Northwest team took some time during the day to drop off cookies to eight local Fire Departments as a small token of appreciation for all they do for us and our communities.

Dallas, Georgia

Our local Dallas, GA office created customer goodie bags to say thank you to several customers we were completing service for on February 17th. The Service Professionals were able to hand deliver them to the customers.

Customer Care

Our local Customer Care team based in Marietta, Georgia wrote handwritten notes for teammates throughout the Southeast to spread the appreciation internally! Many teammates received these and were reminded how other teammates across the company are appreciative for all they do to support the team and customers.

Across the Southeast

Several service centers took the initiative to heart, writing thank you cards, paying for the car behind them when grabbing coffee or breakfast that morning, bringing breakfast in for their team, and more. What we love about Random Acts of Kindness Day is that it’s truly meant to celebrate any and everyone and showcases how the small things really do make the difference.

We are looking forward to next year’s Random Acts of Kindness Day, but more importantly, all the acts of kindness to come throughout 2023 as our teams look to create an impact in big and small ways this year.

Northwest Stockbridge Office Makes Animal Shelter Donation

Northwest Stockbridge Office Makes Animal Shelter Donation

One of the unique things about the Northwest Good Deed Team is the flexibility available to each of our 1,000+ teammates across the Southeast. While there are large, regional initiatives to be a part of, each team and teammate is encouraged to get involved in what matters most to them to make a difference in their local area.

Katie, the Stockbridge Good Deed Team Ambassador, spearheaded an initiative to donate supplies and food to the Butts County Animal Control. The organization supports the removal of stray, uncared for animals from the community to rehome them to proper shelters and ensure they’re cared for and become future pets. Katie dropped off dried and wet food, blankets, and other items as a donation.

We’re thankful for Northwest teammates who look for ways to support their local communities. We also appreciate all that the Butts County Animal Control does to help. We look forward to more initiatives to come this year!
