Our pest of the month for February is the roach. Sometimes it may seem like no matter what you use against them, whether it is insect repellant or the closest cleaning solution you can find, nothing keeps a roach down! Some claims even say that a nuclear explosion couldn’t even take roaches out. Though we don’t profess to have products stronger than something nuclear physicists can whip up, we do manage to handle roaches and other pests with our natural, green products.
So that leaves the question, are roaches truly capable of surviving nuclear explosions? The answer is – possibly! According to MythBusters, 10 percent of cockroaches exposed to the amount of radioactive gamma rays equivalent to the bomb at Hiroshima survived after exposure. It may be due to their simple bodies and slower cell cycles. Roaches lose their cells about once a week at most whereas some human cells constantly split up. However, just like all other life forms, if the radiation was great enough, roaches would not be able to survive.
As stated earlier, Northwest Exterminating has environmentally friendly products that handle your pest control needs. You don’t have to worry about exposure to harmful chemicals as we treat your home for pests. If you have a pest problem, we’ve got the solution! Call Northwest today.

Spotting a spider or roach may cause someone to jump from fright. Most people who have a typical fear of bugs may have these fears for various reasons. For instance, people who avoid bees may have a legitimate concern about being stung, especially if they’ve been stung before and found themselves to be allergic. Some bugs such as bees, wasps, poisonous spiders and mosquitoes can carry threats that many people try to protect themselves from. Northwest Exterminating provides an extensive amount of services to protect homes and businesses from such threats.
Then there are the bugs that may not carry much of a threat but we know the sight of them indicates other unpleasant conditions. Flies and roaches tend to flock to places that are unhygienic and not the cleanest. Maintaining a clean living and working environment usually helps eliminate the presence of these bugs, as well as the related fear. Our preference for a bug-free environment may be due to that in more industrialized, urbanized societies, we do not have firsthand experience with bugs because we do not live in their natural environment. Out of sight is out of mind, so spotting an unusual insect might always be a little bit surprising.
Other people have much more than an aversion, but rather a legitimate fear of insects otherwise known as entomophobia. A well-known form of entomophobia is arachnophobia, the fear of spiders. As the definition suggestions, the fear or concern has little to do with bugs themselves and more to do with somebody’s psychological disposition. Northwest Exterminating may not be able to fix your fears, but we can certainly take care of the bugs for you. Call us today to schedule an appointment!

Technician Tales
As you can imagine, there is never a dull moment in the pest control industry. It is our privilege to be able to help our customers keep their homes and businesses healthy and free of pests. Along the way, we get ourselves into some pretty interesting situations. Sometimes we get a good laugh about them around the different offices and thought that we would share our stories with our readers. Technician Tales will be stories from our ladies and gentlemen out in the field or in the office who have found themselves in some very interesting predicaments. For your enjoyment:
Technician Tales: There’s a boa in your refrigerator
Recently our representatives went on a call for a German cockroach infestation. The area was crawling (no pun intended) in cockroaches. There were roach droppings covering the floors, walls, and naturally, surrounding the refrigerator. As a team of technicians were treating and vacuuming up the roaches, one of the technicians had pulled back the refrigerator and was treating around the area. The technician was working his way around when he all the sudden jumped back and screamed, “SNAKE!!!!!!”. Everyone hurried to see what he was yelling about. When they looked at the bottom of the refrigerator, curled up at the bottom was a 4 foot long boa constrictor!!!! Our technicians went to find someone at the location to let them know what they had found only to be met with the response “We’ve been looking for him”!!

Now THAT was a technician tale that we just had to share.
