Northwest Looks for Ways to Support the Northeast Georgia Homeless Veteran’s Shelter

Northwest Looks for Ways to Support the Northeast Georgia Homeless Veteran’s Shelter

A unique thing about all 30+ Northwest service centers actively working to be involved in their communities is that each month, new stories seem to arise on ways teammates have tried to support or help close to home. The Monroe, Peachtree Corners, and Corporate teams came together to support a local homeless veteran’s shelter near the Monroe service center.

The teams worked together to collect and donate items like food, snacks, toiletries, paper goods, and canned items for the men and women who utilize the shelter. After only a few weeks, the team was able to donate a truckload of items to the shelter.

The Monroe team made the donation in the second week of February. We’re thankful for teammates like these who look for every opportunity to make a difference in their local areas. The teams look forward to other opportunities to help in 2021.

LaGrange Service Center Comes Together for Needed Item Donation

LaGrange Service Center Comes Together for Needed Item Donation

The LaGrange team is always up to something within their community. Whether it’s a Boston Butt Drive or building bunk beds, the team enjoys being a part of the community they have the opportunity to work and live within.

The LaGrange office services a local Women’s Shelter. While providing service, they struck up a conversation with the shelter’s director who mentioned they were having a hard time keeping toilet paper in stock and were in need of it for the shelter. The LaGrange office immediately took action and ordered a few boxes of toilet paper as a donation.

Though a small act of kindness, it’s the opportunities like this that make every teammate at Northwest proud to work for the Mouse. Teammates who want to support not only their customers but also their communities and are actively looking for opportunities to do so. Thank you, LaGrange team, for keeping your eyes open to ways to help!

Northwest Comes Together to Support Ephesus Food Pantry

Northwest Comes Together to Support Ephesus Food Pantry

Opportunities present themselves in interesting ways. Northwest has service centers in the Birmingham, AL and Carrollton, GA areas. One morning, a teammate driving between the two heard an announcement about the need for donations at a local Food Pantry on the radio. The result was the Northwest team coming together to meet this call.

The teammate who overheard the announcement reached out to the local service centers and Corporate office to see what could be possible. The radio asked for donations of basic hygiene needs, especially children’s soap and shampoo. Teammates collected and donated over 251 items within 2 days of the request.

Northwest was able to collect children’s shampoo and soap, baby wash and wipes, Q-tips, men’s and women’s deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, face wash, soap, and razors. All 250+ items were dropped off at the donation society to be used at the Food Pantry. While dropping off, our teammate was able to collect a list of additional needs and items, which the team plans to work on collecting and donating in the future.

It’s incredible to see teammates from all over the Southeast come together in support for our small, local communities we’re fortunate to serve. The Birmingham and Carrollton service centers look forward to supporting more initiatives in the area.

Northwest Supports Local Dobbins Air Force Base with Supply Donation

Northwest Supports Local Dobbins Air Force Base with Supply Donation

Over the last few months, the Northwest Good Deed team and teammates have been collecting donations for soldiers who are quarantining while coming back into or going out of the United States. When the team found out the quarantine period was 16-20 days, they knew the Northwest team needed to come together to support these men and women who do so much for us daily.

The team began donating care bags for each soldier that comes through Dobbins Air Force Base for quarantine. On January 24th, nearly 150 soldiers were quarantined at the Base. Each received a supply bag and had access to donated gaming systems, puzzles, magazines, and DVD players.

Recently, the team heard from TSgt USAF AFRC 16 IS/Delta Flt Disney, who thanked them for thinking of the soldiers quarantined there. It was such a great moment to receive a card from someone receiving the bags.

The team plans to continue to send supply bags to each group of soldiers at least until June 2021! We are so thankful to Sydney Curtis for being the liaison to the Northwest team and relaying this incredible idea for us to support. The team has really enjoyed collecting and putting these together, and it is a small way we can stay thank you to the servicewomen and men.

Dalton Police Department Hosted by Northwest Exterminating to Say Thank You

Dalton Police Department Hosted by Northwest Exterminating to Say Thank You

Each year, Northwest Exterminating teams plan First Responder Events in an effort to show our appreciation for all they do for us and our communities every day. With COVID-19 restrictions, we have been unable to celebrate and thank these men and women as we usually would, so the team got creative with a way to safely say thank you!

On January 26, Northwest hosted meals for any member of the Dalton Police Department at Dos Bros in Dalton, GA. The team invited the police department to stop by for an appreciation meal on Northwest by them simply showing their ID when entering the restaurant. We were thankful that Dos Bros welcomed the idea!

The work that the people do in the Dalton Police Department allows our families to thrive and live safely. We were grateful for the opportunity to show our appreciation and serve the department a meal. Thank you, Dalton PD, for all the work you tirelessly do in Dalton.

Savannah Office Supports Willet Children’s Hospital in Savannah, GA

Savannah Office Supports Willet Children’s Hospital in Savannah, GA

The Savannah team is at it again! Over the last few years, the Northwest team out of the Savannah, GA office has created an amazing relationship with the staff at the Willet Children’s Hospital. The team has focused the partnership to celebrate most holidays with the families and children staying within the hospital at this time.

Each year around the December holidays, the Savannah team reaches out to all of Northwest to collect decorations for the children’s rooms. From mini Christmas trees and lights to window clings and garland, Northwest comes together to purchase and donate these items to bring a bit of holiday cheer to the hospital. This year, the team donated 20 bags of decorations so that each family could decorate their rooms together. 20 window clings were also donated for the ICU rooms.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the team was unable to drop these off and assist with the decorations this year as they have in the past, but they were thrilled to still be able to continue the tradition is some way. In addition to the decorations, they also donated bins of candy for the nursing staff as a small way to say thank you to these frontline workers for all they do.

Being able to volunteer with and donate to the Willet Children’s Hospital has been such a gift to the Savannah team who truly enjoys anytime they’re able to come together to support the families and staff. We are thankful for all the Hospital does, and we look forward to continuing the partnership into 2021.

Showing Thanks to First Responders, Local Law Enforcement, and Customers by Our Laurens Team

Showing Thanks to First Responders, Local Law Enforcement, and Customers by Our Laurens Team

Piedmont Pest Control, soon to transition to the Northwest Exterminating name, continues to create ways for teammates to be involved in the Laurens’ community, something every teammate enjoys.

A connection the Laurens team created early on was with the local first responders and law enforcement, especially to say thank you for all they do daily for our community. Though 2020 has changed the way our teammates are able to serve locally, they have found ways to so safely and with the same service-oriented heart.

Supporting a Customer

Some of our teammates took a Saturday morning to help an elderly customer with yardwork they were unable to do. The lawn was mowed, tree limbs were cleared, the yard was picked up, and our team was able to honor and support our customer in this small way they were thankful to be a part of.

First Responder Cookout

Our Piedmont teams’ partnership with the Laurens first responders continued this month with another First Responder Lunch, but this time drive-by style! This was a fun day of celebration, involvement, and connecting with our first responders with a Chick-Fil-A lunch. We enjoyed having our police officers and firefighters come by to pick up lunch and for our team to express our appreciation for their service and commitment to our extraordinary community.

First Responder, K9 Partnership

The Laurens team is thankful for the overall involvement with our first responders and the incredible people met throughout the years. There have been some special times our Laurens’ team has been able to help one team, the K9s. Our Laurens office was able to host the Laurens Police Department K9 training dogs and use our office as training grounds for them. This might be the coolest thing our teammates have been able to participate in – it was incredible! One K9 stole the team’s hearts altogether, Kai. She is beautiful, energetic, and an honoree Laurens teammate. At 2019’s First Responder Cookout, our team sponsored a bullet proof vest for her to have. Thank you, Laurens PD, for allowing us to be of service to not only your team of first responders but also the K9s.

Being involved in the communities our teams live and work in daily is an honor and something our teammates enjoy, not only because of the small acts of kindness created, but also because of the opportunity to create even a small impact in the communities we love. Thank you to all our teammates for looking for ways to continue to be involved throughout a year that looks difficult for all.

A Northwest Christmas Partnership

A Northwest Christmas Partnership

This holiday season presented Northwest Exterminating with an unexpected Christmas miracle opportunity. Our teammates were asked to help a family that had recently lost everything in a house fire. With the holidays near, Christmas was far from the minds of the family with so much going on and with few ways to make it special for their children.

The Northwest Family was given ways to help and came together to collect items on the children’s wish list and to make a small difference to this family’s Christmas. The Northwest team loves to find ways to support the opportunities given to serve, but the true difference maker in this story is a teammate’s daughter. She heard of what Northwest was doing, saw the family we were supporting had a 15-year-old daughter her age, and granted each clothing item wish on her list.

Northwest Exterminating’s Co-Director of the Good Deed Team, Kristen Milligan, speaks value to this story, “This gives hope that the next generation has the compassion and willingness to help others that reflects our commitment to bringing the heart of Northwest into the communities that we live and work in. This kind of compassion is only taught by the actions and behavior they see around them, which is a true testament to our Northwest teammates and family.”

This family was able to have a Christmas miracle this year with gifts for everyone! We are so thankful WSB reached out to us on this opportunity to be difference makers for a family in the holiday season.

Northwest GDT Teams Up with Birney Elementary Again for December’s Literatura Bilingual Family Literacy Program

Northwest GDT Teams Up with Birney Elementary Again for December’s Literatura Bilingual Family Literacy Program

The Northwest Family Literacy Program is something the Northwest Good Deed Team’s Co-Leaders, Kristen and Greg, worked hand in hand to create with local schools and teachers. It’s grown to be a program available to multiple schools around the area and is something the pair thoroughly enjoys being involved with each month.

Birney Elementary teamed up with the Northwest GDT to create the Literatura Bilingual Family Literacy Program for their elementary students to participate and be involved in. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and safety top of mind, the families and students have not been meeting in person. The two teams created a drive-thru format to still be able to provide the resources, books, fun, and sense of community while practicing social distancing guidelines!

Birney has continued to see a large turnout amongst their students, and December was another huge success. The GDT served over 100 families participating in the program a meal while they picked up their resource and activities packet. With the help of other GDT members, they were also able to film the book that each family was receiving in the December program in both Spanish and English for the families to enjoy!

The Literatura Family Literacy Program has grown in participation, with the Birney and Northwest teams hopeful to see this trend continue into the 2021 school year. The Program is hosted monthly, with new, unique activities created and handed out each time. The teams look forward to continuing the Literacy Program and growing it to serve more families in the future with Birney.
