Mud Daubers
Identification
-
Wide variety in size and coloring
-
Most have a thread-like waist
Environment
-
Build mud nests in protected areas around structures
-
Can be found almost anywhere
Threats
-
Nests can be unsightly
-
Nests can leave stains on the surfaces they are attached to
-
Highly unlikely to sting, but stings may be life threatening to sensitive individuals
Treatment
-
Not particularly necessary, they are enormously beneficial for controlling other arthropod populations
-
If control is needed, the adult will be killed outside of the nest and the nest removed to prevent infestation by another species of wasp or a secondary infestation by other insects
